The best way I have found to communicate about the affect of a haircut with a hairdresser is to tell them how you want to feel. Adjectives like: sexy, sporty, sassy, and professional, are samples of what is meant by this suggestion. To say take an inch off is not as effective. Hairdressers like to be creative for the most part and can interpret your feelings well.
This communication method best sets me apart from other stylists.
